It's been my experience knowing well, a couple of friends who were educated at Oxford University that common sense always triumphs, over those who have received an Ivy League level education.
Paraphrasing the words of René Descartes, common sense is the most widely shared commodity, there is for every person is convinced that they are well supplied with it....are we?
Deception, and self deception remind us that common sense, or the intuitive sense an awareness, if you will that something does not add up, is often rejected for want of tangible proof that our intuitive awareness can be trusted in the face of apparent evidence that persuade our perceptions to the contrary.
Albert Einstein wrote:The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
Most of us, if not all of us have faced those moments when a powerful sense of foreboding, warns us of danger....yet, our senses detect nothing out of the ordinary...our eyes, and ears appear oblivious to the signal emanating from our innermost self alerting us.
Victor Hugo observed that common sense is in spite of, not the result of education...could he have meant that there is a collective inner guidance system that human life shares, which does not depend upon the accumulation of knowledge...an awareness perhaps, a shared perceptiveness that warns the human person to be prudent in the face of an unseen danger..even, providing the remedy that leads us out of danger?
Carl Jung touched on this topic when writing in some depth theorising on the human collective unconscious, influencing the decisions that we make....a sort of universal awareness, perception that the human person can tap into, to make wise decisions that lead to a happier, and more rewarding life....which inevitably leads us to contemplation of the inner life, conceived as enlightenment a world where the "mystic" harvests insight beyond the scope of rational reasoning....
