Democrats currently hold 4 of Georgia’s 14 US Congressional seats. Republicans hold 9. One seat is currently vacant.
Georgia’s 6th Congressional District is situated in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. Geographically, it includes about 300 square miles and roughly 700,000 residents.
The 6th is considered solidly conservative and Establishment friendly. Following the most recent Midterm Election, the
Cook Partisan Voting Index (2014) was R+14, with virtually no change from 2012. Marco Rubio carried the district in the 2016 Republican Primary. It is also the home district of former Speaker Newt Gingrich.
As Rachel Maddow has noted, President Trump carried the 6th District by only a single point in the 2016 General Election.
This seat~ held by
Dr. Tom Price for the past dozen years is now vacant. A Special Election will be held on April 18th to select a new representative. If no single candidate receives a majority of the vote, the 2 candidates with the most votes, (regardless of political party,) will compete in a runoff on June 20th.
There are 11 Republican Party candidates, 5 Democratic Party candidates, and 2 Independent candidates. The purpose [topic] of this thread is to compile information on these candidates and invite discussion about them or about the election process in Georgia to replace Dr. Price, who is currently serving as US Secretary of Health and Human Services.
