I do not get it

Hello. I am in need of some advice when trying to date. Here's my story in short:
I met this awesome guy online and we began talking. We continued talking for months and I started to like the person I was talking to. We would skype, text, talk, and even met in person. We would communicate for hours everyday from sun up until sun down. I finally confessed to him that I am starting to find interest in him but then he told me he only see me as a friend. I am just so confused right now because why would he continue to keep up the these late night conversations if he did not find interest in me? We've never hooked up either and I do not live a rich life so I'm sure he's not using me for anything
The only reason that I could think of of why he's not interested is that he told me he did not find asians physically attractive and I am half asian. I have asked all of my close friends but most them are heterosexual so I would like to hear from a homosexual or even a bisexual point of view on my situation. Have any of this happened to you?
